I had the opportunity to work with the composer throughout the entirety of the compositional process. Such a process, almost artisanal in nature, allowed us to develop a completely new language for the bassoon. Mosca, by Axel Retif, consisted of an entire creational exercise, an extremely interesting collaboration. The final product encompassed a deep range of new performing resources, sonorities, colors, and sounds throughout a very innovative musical writing system. Mosca was born in the forced confinement caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The piece and slowly evolved , grew, and transformed itself up to the point it became, from a personal perspective, into a composition that will write a new era in the Mexican music scene.
