Axel Retif (1992)

Composer, producer, and sound artist whose music is marked by electric energy, sharp contrasts, and immersive textures. From a single musical idea, he creates intense sonic landscapes that unfold with both patience and force.

Since the premiere of his first work in 2018, Retif’s music has been performed in more than 130 concerts across over a dozen countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Iran, Mexico, and the United States. His work has been brought to life by artists of diverse nationalities and by more than forty distinguished ensembles and soloists in festivals, institutions, and international platforms.

His discography comprises three monographic albums: Sincronías (2021), House of Flies (2022), and Broken Sands (2025). His piece Taos, commissioned and recorded by Mushamukas Ensamble de Contrabajos, is featured on the collective album Ecos de Viaje – Homenaje a Stefano Scodanibbio. In 2026, his work Halterio will be released as part of an Ibermúsicas-supported project recorded by violinist Juanmanuel Flores, alongside works by Gabriel Mora, Helga Arias, and Lala Disandro. These recordings have been produced and released through Tagma Records, the independent label he directs.

In 2023, Retif represented Mexico and Radio UNAM at the 69th International Rostrum of Composers in The Hague, organized by the International Music Council under the auspices of UNESCO. In 2024, his orchestral work 5 de mayo: La Batalla de Puebla, commissioned by the Secretaría de Cultura de Puebla, was premiered by the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de Puebla under the baton of David Hernández Bretón. He is currently composing a new orchestral work commissioned by the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de Puebla for its 25th anniversary, with its premiere scheduled for 2027.

His international trajectory continues to grow through his participation as a speaker at the 31st International Symposium on Electronic / Emerging Art (ISEA) in Dubai, scheduled for November 2026, and through his selection as a representative in the AI for Global Leaders (AGL) program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, further affirming his presence in global spaces of artistic and cultural leadership.

He holds a Master of Arts in Music Composition and Theory from The University of New Mexico (USA).
